I’ve been winding my yarn into cakes for a while now. However, it was only recently that I discovered this particular trick of putting the cake into a ziploc bag. It is so simple and obvious I’m not sure why I didn’t do it sooner. It keeps the cake from wobbling around as I pull, and the extra structure keeps it from collapsing into a mess as the center of the cake empties out. As a bonus, it will keep my yarn safer from accidental spills as I am traveling. If I was really ambitious or had lots of projects going at once, I could write the yarn type and weight and what size needles or crochet hook I was using on the bag to help keep track.
What other seemingly obvious yarn tricks do you recommend?
Ooh that’s a good idea!
