Welty Socks progress (3)

I had a good amount of time to get knitting done over the weekend. The heels have been turned and I’m partway through the gusset. I decided to try knitting the heel flaps without breaking the main color yarn, which mean a bit of detangling. I finally broke down and used backwards knitting for the short rows, and it made a huge difference. You can see that the gradient is not quite the same between the two socks. That’s a hazard of hand-painted gradient yarn I suppose. If it had well-defined stripes it would be simple to make sure they lined up, but the color change in this yarn is so beautiful and gradual that it would make that very difficult. I love the colorway and it looks gorgeous so it’s hard to be too worked up about not having a perfect match.
