Well I guess it was bound to happen eventually. I was getting so close to being done, but ended up having to rip back pretty much everything I did today, all because of the split cuff. It is a very pretty detail, with a tiny bit of overlap right at the split. Yesterday I struggled a little bit with picking up stitches for the overlap, but it came out fine. Today I thought “I know how this works now!” and did it with no trouble at all.
It wasn’t until I was almost finished with the whole cuff that I remembered that the overlap is supposed to be mirrored for the left and right sleeves, and I had done it exactly the same. I could have just left it. It’s such a small detail I’m not sure anybody would have noticed but me. But it was one of those thoughtful little details that made me choose this pattern in the first place, and it would have bugged me forever. So it is all ripped out and ready for a second attempt.
